audio out of sync

I created a slideshow with photo's and video's shot from cameras. I also added some music and checked the option to 'duck audio while playing movies'.

I can play the entire 48 minute/400 picture/62 video project via idvd player and it is perfect. However, if I burn to DVD, the audio gets out of sync a few minutes into the dvd.

I see lots of posts on this over the last few years, but few answers, other than reimport with 16-bit audio(which is impossible because they are from cameras that I don't have anymore). I can't believe Apple hasn't addressed, so I must be missing something.

I am running iLife 09, iDVD 7.0.3, on a MacBook Pro 17" with 10.5.6.

Thanks,
PHil

Hi

a. Did You assemble Your SlideShow in iMovie ?

iDVD SlideShow function has a 99 photos limit per Show as I remember it.

b. No Apple has not addressed the 12-bit/16-bit audio - out of sync problem.

Only way is to export out the audio and in an audio editor convert it to
.aiff 16.bit 48kHz

Audacity is a free tool on the net. Google it.

c. If You built Your SlideShow in iMovie up to version HD 6 You might try to
• select all in TimeLine (audio tracks visibly)
• Advance/Extract audio
• Lock audio to video
• Save
• Have a new try - Make a DiskImage first and test this with DVD-player and
see if audio plays OK
If so burn with Apple Disk Util tool or Roxio Toast™

I did not use iMovie. iDVD did not enforce any limit. I will try to start with iMovie. Seems like this extra step is alot less painful than the other options.

Thanks for the advise. I am pretty shocked that Apple has not fixed this...

Out of curiosity, why the old version HD6? I have version 8... I have to admit, my kids have not liked the newer version, so we have loaded HD6 on most of the mac's in our house...wondering if this is yet another reason to keep HD6 around...

There are so much.

iMovie'08 and 09 are no upgrade but a compleately different/new tool

The limitations are to great.

in iMovie up to and incl iMovie HD 6 You
• Work as movie maker done in 100-ds of Years - Chronologically after a TimeLine
This is broken in iM'08 and 09
• You could add tools of need called Plug-ins
Not so in iM08 and 09 - all Your investments are dead
• You could as I connect a Camera or A/D-box and a TV (or Reference Monitor) and
keep control over Your doings
NOT any longer
• When done You could make a Safe copy back on tape in Camera (keeping 100% quality)
NO NOT any more

and so on till You call me a sour-puff (or what's the proper name of it)

If Apple would do the same to FinalCut it would be DEAD and so would the Apple
freedom started in 1984 with freedom of print with a GUI and ways to print what You need.

The frustration of being going backwards is to great and if Apple just named it's
product right and not killing off the way forward for iMovie
• Dual video tracks (with sizing and pic in pic)
• Stereo audio tracks
The situation would be greatly oherwice.

Yours now more and more using FinalCut Bengt W
