Importing from Nikon D40

For a year now I've been importing photos from my D40 via a SanDisk Reader. The Nikon importing sequence that came next was so confusing that I started doing things another way -- however, it could well be I'm just not doing it right. (And after reading all the "Lost My Pictures" stories, I'm anxious to keep iPhoto happy!)

What I now do is ignore the Nikon window entirely, go to the Nikon PictureProject file in User, and drag the file therein to the desktop. Having checked that it's got the pictures, I then drag the desktop file icon to the IPhoto icon in the dock. And having checked that the photos are in iPhoto, I drag the photo file on the desktop to the trash.

It would be great to hear from another Nikon user if there's a better way,

Thanking you,

Fortes

Why is it that you do not set the iPhoto preference for action when a camera is connected to launch iPhoto and use iPhoto to import them from the card via the card reader? (Note that iPhoto is not really looking for a camera but for a FAT32 formatted storage device - connecting your card reader with your memory card in it will launch iPhoto)
