Wont let me download itunes

Everytime I go to the download page on apples website and attempt to download itunes or quicktime it saves as a binary file and that file then is not found on my computer any where when i choose to save it. i tried uninstalling itunes, and reinstalling an older version and it still will not run. this just started happening yesterday when i chose to update itunes from 8.0.1 to the current one. anything i can do?
