Tascam us-224 Not recognized

I keep loading drivers and Garage band can't detect my Tascam us-224. It worked in Panther. Is there another Tascam us-224 user out there? I can't get a signal in.

Been days now. No answer from my email to the "help" people at Tascam. I have re-emailed my request for help, but it's just ridiculous that you buy a product and cannot find out if it will work on your new system. No info here at apple and Tascam doesn't reply. The computer world is really shoddy. Poor craftmanship everywhere.

I vent. Sorry...

Here's what Tascam sent me:

The US-224 is only going to work as an audio interface for Garageband and not a control surface. I have attached the latest driver, disconnect the US-224 run the remover then run the installer which are both part of the attachment. On some of the newer Macs there have been changes to the USB power configuration so you might need to add a powered USB hub to go between the unit and the computer.

Thank you for your interest in Tascam products. If you need further assistance feel free to call us or e-mail us at Custser at teac dot com

I have an old powered hub, but even with that and the new drivers and the uninstall, it doesn't work. I'm skeptical that the us-224 will ever work for me on leopard, and I now give up. It's not worth the time to try to make this device work. For all I know, it's impossible. Tascam says er... you might need a powered hub too. Maybe. Maybe my old hub is too old? Maybe I'll go buy a new hub on the off chance it will magically solve the problem -- not! I'm going over to the apple store and buy a new, simple audio interface of some kind. The Tascam bus has busted down and I'm taking Trailways to Recordingsville.

Thanks for responding everybody!

I looked at the Tascam DI's when I decided to invest in another one but with all the issues people seem to have with them in this and other forums I decided against it. Was all set to get a Toneport but found my "new" Roland (Boss) GS-10 on Ebay and man oh man it's everything any guitarist could want and it flat out works beautiful on my Mac and my Vista Laptop too.

Tom, I loaded the latest Firmware from the Tascam site and now I get the 1641 and garageband and/or Cubase talking. Finally. The Tascam tech walked me through it.

Problem I am having NOW is I cannot get Garageband to 'see' the midi out from the Tascam 1641. I'm gonna try flipping the midi cables around and see what that does. I don't even know what inputs show in G-band for the midi connection.

I use the older drivers that came with the US-224 off the CD-ROM and have no problem getting audio into the computer and everything works fine with MIDI. You might want to remove all the drivers you installed and see what happens when you connect the US-224 with out them. The unit has been pretty much plug n play for me. AS far as getting the unit to do play, record, fader controls et al. I stumbled across this article. I hope this helps.
