Color Profiles... help!

Hi.. I'm having trouble understanding color profiles. I did a search but I didnt quite understand what I read. I have an iMac G5 20-inch and would like to print images in Adobe Photoshop CS2. In the displays profile, I have the iMac profile chosen for my display. Is this correct, or should it be set to Adobe RGB (1998)?

Also, in Photoshop should my color profile of a new document match my monitors color profile? Photoshop right now is using Adobe RGB for its profile. If anyone could help me out with this it would be greatly appreciated.

Yes, you don't want to use a generic color space as your display profile. You should start by calibrating your imac (starting from the imac profile), using either the calibrator in system prefs or, better yet, a hardware calibrator like the Spyder or Eye-One. Save and name the new profile, then go to your colorsync preferences and choose that instead of Generic RGB there.

Device profiles and working color space are not the same thing, so, yes, you can choose Adobe RGB as your document profile and working color space in PS. Bruce Fraser's 'Real World Color Management' is a good reference for this knotty subject.
