Connection to iTunes Store Timed Out

Cannnot connect to iTunes store... Cleaned registry, uninstalled/reinstalled iTunes, checked firewall and proxy settings, and msconfig...No luck.

Does the problem only occur at the iTunes Store, or does it also occur at the other online music download stores that you have tried?

When you ran MSCONFIG, were iTunes and QuickTime the only things checked off in the Startup tab?
How about in the Service tab, was there lots of things in there?

When you got the confirmation message from Vista that it was changing things, did you click OK just once? Clicking OK twice would undo those changes.

When I ran msconfig, there were additional services checked off in the startup tab... I clicked ok only once then restarted system...no luck

When you checked that itunes is allowed in the firewall, did you check your security software firewall in addition to the windows firewall.

Yes. I have gone as far as uninstalling Symantec...Make that no Apple products can access the internet...

when you uninstalled symantec did you use the Norton Removal Tool? if not, it is still working.

You don't need to uninstall it unless you are going to use another software, just allow itunes and ituneshelper in the firewall.

I put ituneshelper.exe on the list of firewall exceptions...restarted system and still no good.

Those additional services...one of them might be the one that is causing a conflict with iTunes.

OK, that helps focus where the problem is. And if all you are trying to do is buy songs that you can play in iTunes, it also suggests a solution.

Katrina, yes those are the instructions I used. I just executed the steps outlined three additional times (meticulously) and the issue I have is, at step 14, after restart, I do not receive the "Windows has blocked startup programs" message... System starts "normally", when I attempt to run iTunes I am informed that iTunes needs to repair software required to communicate with iPods and iPhones... Whether I choose to allow iTunes to restore these services or not, the outcome remains the same, "connection timed out" at iTunes store. Cannot download podcasts, cannot access internet through Quicktime either... Other than that Firefox works just fine.
