Start up sound is somehow distorted

Hi,

Yesterday I heard a very strange and distorted start up sound, when I restarted my Powerbook G4 1.67GHz. But when my Powerbook is running the sound is normal. I tried starting up with headphones on to see, if the problem is internal speaker related, but the sound was the same.
The sound is staccato and longer then normal.
Any idea what might cause this?

Greetings

Powerbook G4 1.67GHz, Mac OS X (10.5)

No startup sound may mean something amiss with hardware. With mine it was RAM not being recognised. Or check in Sytem Preferences>Sound>Sound out if the mute box has not been (accidentally) activated.
Check what About this Mac>More Info>System Profiler>Diagnostics has to say. If it says Results: "passed", don't worry but just keep alert.
Good luck!
