iChat and Adium Problems

I went to use Adium the other day and all it did was sit there trying to connect but nothing would happen. I decided to check iChat to see if it was just an app specific problem, but I got this error "Could not connect to AIM: The host refused the connection, try again later." It even doesn't work with games. I've checked the ports on my modem and they're fine. Checked to make sure it didn't have to do with the OSX firewall but I have it disabled. Next I connected to a different network and it did the same thing. My friend was connected to my network and his iChat and Adium worked fine and they work fine on my iMac. I did an Archive and Install still with no luck. I finally gave in an did an Erase and Install and starting off it worked fine. Then after did the updates both of them quit working again. Does anyone know if the update has something to do with it or if it is something on my computer.
