iPod Classic Sound Check Feature

I have the Sound Check feature enabled on my iPod Classic and I don't always tell it's working when some songs are noticeably lower in volume than others. Is that suppose to happen this way?

Toshiba Notebook 2 GIGs DDR2, Windows Vista, iTunes: V8.1 Apple iPod (iPod Classic 160 GB) FreeAgent Ext HDD.

Maybe you should disable the feature on both the iPod and iTunes. Sync the iPod. Listen to that song. Then enable the feature on both the iPod and iTunes. Sync the iPod. Listen to that song to see if there is any difference.

Also, the feature just uses an algorithm to determine the average loudness for all the songs and adjust the individual song volume levels accordingly. So on some songs, where there are great variances in loudness (such as classical music or soundtrack music), it may not work perfectly.
