404 Error Message

This morning downloads were a little slow, so I ran the test downloads function on the Apple TV. I get an error message "test cannot be downloaded Error 404" Go to the Check for downloads area and try again.
In the check for downloads area the File "test" is sitting there and if you click download, it fails again with that same 404 error message.
I can view trailers, and you Tube stuff, and the sync seems to connect so the Apple TV seems to be working.
Does anyone know what the 404 Error means?
Since the "test" file is an apple generated/maintained file, is that the problem, in that it's unavailable for some reason?

I had the same 404 problem and by resetting to the factory settings the downloads are working again... or at least appear to be working. I had about 10 "Test" downloads that had queued up and they are all gone now, and the TV shows I was trying to download to my ATV now are making progress.

If you try this: just note that this deletes anything on your ATV, so if you have not yet synced with your PC you will lose it. Apple will probably give you access to those downloads again if you ask for it, but doing a sync with your PC first is easier and advisable. Good Luck.

I'm getting the same code and issue. Looks like a few of us have in the past 24 hours. I can download to computer and then sync. I can view trailers and purchase, but then get "waiting to download." I can view YouTube and other content. I've reset my Apple TV to factory settings and reset my Airport Extremes. Issue remains.

This seems to be a problem caused by the latest version of iTunes/iTunes Store. Not only will it not allow you to purchase new content, it will dump all your purchased content that is synced to the ATV. It appears that you can look at You Tube content and browse content without problems, so it is not an internet connection problem with the ATV. I am not sure what happens if you try to purchase content with the ATV, but I suspect it will not work. When this problem occurs you cannot get access to your account information on iTunes Store, you get a network time out error.

Basically the system is thoroughly broken and every one I know with an ATV is describing the same problems. As is usual with Apple their is no information from them, but given that there is a lot of noise in the forums I would suggest they have a serious problem.

The annoying thing is that is something to do with DRM which is always causing problems. Why the ATV has to reauthorise each time it is synced beats the heck out of me, but that is what appears to be failing. I suppose we should all be used to being treated like criminals!!

Generally if you keep trying it will eventually work and allow syncing and purchases to occur.

I am having the same problem. Stuck on "Accessing iTunes Store" when I try and DL a movie. Had no problem middle of last week. The only other odd thing is that iTunes is stuck on synching the TV. Just spins away. If I hit the x and stop it, everything seems to in order, though any changes I've made are not synched. I would hate to have to reset TV thereby losing the content that is currently residing on the TV. I've had no problems with the setup since I bought it two years ago, now kaplooyee.

I reset to factory settings and then it immediately wanted to update the software. My question to you is when you reset to factory settings did you bring the software up to date?

If you did not, then don't or you'll go right back to the 404 problem. The "test your connection" selection in networking was not available in my factory version of software.
