wrongly defined user agent

Please can you assist - I have tried everything with this.

My Mac is -

OSX 10.5.6
2.6 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo

4GB 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM

HOWEVER - my UserAgent is defined as -

And your user-agent string is:
Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; PPC Mac OS X 10 56; en-us) AppleWebKit/528.16 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/4.0 Safari/528.16

I am using the newest version of Safari - and this conflict is causing me no end of problems..... please help..... how do I correct the user agent data so that websites etc know I have an intel Mac, rather than a PPC? - which stops me using many sites etc.

Thanks,

Tim Stoner

Hi, Many thanks for your reply. I have already done this -

Safari->Preferences->Advanced->check Show Develop menu in menu bar. Then, Develop->User Agent->Defautl (Automatically Chosen).

But.....does not change anything. Really frustrating!

When you say the newest version of Safari, do you mean the beta version? If so, remember that it is beta. If you are running Safari 3.2.1, have you tried resetting it?
Try dragging the ~/library/preferences file
com.apple.Safari.plist
onto the desktop and logging out and back in to create a new default file.

Hi, Thanks for your reply. The problem first appeared when I was using 3.2.1. which was until recently when I switched to the Beta version. The problem seemed to occur about 4 months ago.

My browser is now running a bit better - ie does not crash so much, and I have corrected my user agent profile under this version.

However, with some sites my browser 'access' seems denied, or at least confused.

Is there a way to perhaps completely reset my browser?..... although I have to add that I have Firefox and also Opera installed and there is the same problem.

Cheers, Tim

Can you be a bit more specific about what "problems" you are actually
seeing and why you believe it to be related to the user-agent setting?
What sites are involved?
What exact problem are you seeing?

If you are having the same problem with other browsers then it is more likely
an issue with the sites since each browser will be sending different user-agent
information.

Many thanks Dave.

For example - I used the Veoh viewer to watch documentaries.... and it always worked fine, and then all of a sudden there was a conflict with my user-agent (identified by their web-team). This site still does not operate with my browser even after the changes that I made to the user-agent profile and switching off Rosetta.

I was thinking that perhaps the other browsers I use (Opera and Firefox) may have the problem as I imported my preferences to them.

Once again, thanks for your consideration.
