iTunes prices

Hello.
I haven't really understood the new price-changes.

I can see that some of the songs are only availabe in plus-mode, but other songs are available in the old format. Take for example Black Eyed Peas' "Boom boom Pow" - I can only find this song in plus-mode.

Is this correct or am I missing the point ?

The same reason some cd's are more expensive than others. New, more popular music may be more expensive than less popular music.

From a CNN article:

"Schiller said iTunes will now offer three price points for songs: 69 cents, 99 cents and $1.29. It will also offer all of the 10 million songs in its library without copy protection, and will allow iPhone users to download songs through 3G wireless networks.

In a press release accompanying the announcement, Apple said the pricing of a song will be based on what music labels charge. The labels that have agreed to the pricing include the four biggest - Universal Music Group, Sony BMG, Warner Music Group and EMI.

Many in the industry has been critical of Apple's 99-cent pricing, with some executives saying that it cut into profits on hit songs that could sell at a higher price"

This is totally unfair! I bought Love Story by Taylor Swift less than a month ago and it was .99 cents. I looked at her album on iTunes and all of the songs are 1.29, including Love Story!! This is a 30 cent increase!! Thats a lot comparitivly. Im glad I bought the song before the price change, but i wish i had known, i would have bought other songs before the increase in price. I understand the logic behind the change, but i think it's going to make many people buy songs from the compition. Im very upset as my already limited buget for songs is now going to have to be stretch even thinner!! I really wish apple had kept the .99 cent standard. This is really too bad.

The shift to multiple-level pricing, with new/popular titles being more expensive, was announced back in January.

i think it's going to make many people buy songs from the compition.

The other download stores carrying major-label content are also going to multiple-tier pricing, though prices vary from store to store for a given track.

As has been said in the forums many times, it wasn't up to Apple. The record companies forced Apple to accept multiple-level pricing as the price of being allowed to drop copy protection. Apple hated multiple-tier pricing, but the record companies basically put a gun to Apple's collective heads by licensing stores like Amazon to sell sans copy protection while prohibiting Apple from doing so until Apple caved on the multiple-tier pricing.

The price raise is backfireing, so the record lables are making less from itunes then they did when the songs were .99 cents. I am one of the many who refuse to pay 1.29 for song. I will pay .99 for a song, even a dollar, but not a penny more.

I normally buy a 15 gift songs, 15 dollars for 15 songs. Seems fair enough, but not a 15 dollar gift card only give you about 11 songs. So unless a song I want is .99 or less I wont be buying it from itunes.

With the econemy the way it is 1.29 is too much for one song.

Where are all the 69 cent songs? I went looking using the browser and these were my results (catergory-artist-song-price):
1. German Folk-Babinski Schrammeln-"Wiener MusikantenMarsch"... 99 cents
2. Anime-Little Viking-"Doki Doki Shitaiwa"... 99 cents
3. Country-Hazel Dickens-"Darling Nellie Across the Sea"... 99 cents
4. Comedy- MC zero G-"The Decider"... 99 cents (I bought this one)
5. Spoken word-Patrick Ball-"The Butterfly"... 99 cents.

To what length does one have to go to find a song at that price. I can see paying more for newer music. But shouldn't it work both ways? Is Babinski worth the same as Sabath's "war pigs" or Jerimih's "Birthday Sex" (which I am gonna get).

Does anyone know if the prices will go down after a while, say when the song is not so knew?

It would be up to the record companies; they set pricing now. They're not big on price reductions, but you never know. I wouldn't hold my breath waiting, though, if I were you. Shop around; different stores have worked out different deals, so you might find the track for less at another download store.
