Pages Table, entering numbers beginning with a zero?

Pages Table, entering numbers beginning with a zero?

I have a table in Pages and when I enter a number, say 0004623 (I want the zeros!) in a cell, the three leading zeros are omitted when I tab to the next cell.

How do I keep the zeros?

intel I Mac and macbook, Mac OS X (10.5.6)

preface it with a single quote as in: '000023

the quote won't appear in the table.

As you are using 7 numbers incl zeros you can use the 'Numerical format' Base 10 to 7 places.
The format is available with all the others in the inspector > Cell (42).
