Streaming from iMac to Apple TV

How do I stream music and movies from my iMac to my Apple TV over my Wireless Network?

I have had a lot of trouble trying to figure this out, so help would be much appreciated.

Open iTunes on the computer you want to stream from.
On Apple TV, choose Settings > Computers from the main menu.
Choose "Add Shared iTunes Library" and make a note of the passcode displayed.
In iTunes, select the Apple TV icon with "Click to set up" next to it.
Enter the passcode. While content is being streamed, the computer must remain on and iTunes must remain open.

In iTunes under preferences click the sharing tab and make sure you have share my library on my local network checked. then either share your entire library or share selected playlist.
