grey box appears over video when using Quicktime conversion

I'm using FCP 6.0.5 on a Quad-Core Intel Xeon 2 x 2.8Ghz with 2GB 800MHz DDR2 FB-DIMM.
when exporting using QuickTime conversion, there is a large grey box that appears. I've tried exporting via QuickTime Pro but the same thing happens.

G5 MAC PRO, Mac OS X (10.4.11)

Not quite sure exactly what's happening. Does the computer lock up? If so, it's probably a kernel panic.

What format are the clips in your sequence, what are your sequence settings and what are your export settings? I would suspect that you have clips in a format that are not suitable for editing in fcp.
