Stop the iPhone from sleeping when in dock

Is there a way to stop the iPhone screen from going black when put in dock. I would like to use it as a clock while in the dock. I know that I can turn off the auto lock feature and get a clock app but i would rather leave the auto lock on if possible b/c some times i forget to lock it and put it down and it drains the battery. any ideas would be awesome.

If you leave the auto lock on, your iPhone will auto lock based on your chosen setting to auto lock automatically - hence the name for this setting, which is Auto Lock.

If you don't want your iPhone to auto lock, you must turn off auto lock. When auto lock is off, you can manually select the sleep/wake button to put the iPhone's screen to sleep.

Either that or get in the habit or re-enabling auto lock the first thing when removing your iPhone from the dock.
