Renewing DHCP lease won't work

I configured my TCP/IP and DNS setting to my office's network as follows

IP 10.1.34.183
Mask 255.255.255.0
Gateway 10.1.34.200

and the DNS i won't post it but it doesnt matter anyway. So yesterday after work I got home and removed these settings and tried to connect to my linksys router but my MacBook wouldn't renew the DHCP lease to get an automatic IP address, furthermore, it wouldn't even let me select DHCP in the network preferences.. any ideas?

MacBook 13.3" 2.2 GHz 4GB, Mac OS X (10.5.6), Running XP on VMware Fusion

What do you mean by "it wouldn't allow you to select DHCP."

Are you running as a user that can normally alter network settings?
