Lid doesn't fully close

The lid on only one corneer of the front of our MBP does not close flush with the bottom; there is about a sixteenth of an inch opening at the corner in the front and on the side.

This is a problem we've had since we got the 15 MBP in September 2007. I wish I had returned it to the store immediately when I noticed it and asked for a replacement or a fix. It hasn't troubled me - until now - when I realize we will eventually run out of AppleCare.

I recall reading somewhere other people mentioning having had this issue, but I couldn't find those threads on a search.

We don't often take the MBP anywhere, so it doesn't travel much - yet, it may eventually replace our iBook as our travel Mac. (Would that Apple would come out with a small, very portable, less expensive netbook...)

Has anyone had any luck with AppleCare covering a replacement of the lid (and whatever other hardware than entails) to solve the problem?

So I gues you're saying it's not worth my while to try to get anything out of AppleCare for this?

I have to bring the MBP into my local Apple store for another issue (the light on the power adapter goes out on its own while its plugged in - I'm not talking about dimming, goes out - I have an AC case # for this repair) I'll see what they say about the lid at that time.
I've never seen a MBP that DOES sit flush. Mine has about a half inch on the left side.

Half an inch! So I'm lucky!
I wish I could find the old discussion, including a photo, of the rant about this issue. One person said they noticed the warped lid immediately at the store and got MBP with a tight fitting lid.

Thanks for your info,

A short time ago I noticed that the lid release on my MacBook Pro did not pop open cleanly like it had been doing since I got it. When I pushed the release it opened like a piece of tape being pulled off a surface. And I see that the lid does not seem to be flat anymore. When closed the left and right front corners are slightly raised from the base. If I put my fingers on the front corners of the edge of the closed lid I can rock it like a seesaw. I do not remember it being like this. I always use it on a ventilated base. Why has this happened?

I have no answer as you can see here - this thread doesn't really solve the problem.

You might want to start your own thread and ask your question again; however, I see you have replied with a similar note to another thread on this topic which also doesn't have a definitive answer.

Seems like the solution is - try the Apple store folks and see what happens - or call Applecare and see what they say...
