setting Quicktime as default mp3 and wav player

Hello

I know this is a pretty basic question, but how do I set Quicktime to be my defualt player for mp3 and wav files?

If i select a wav file and then tick the "Always Open With" box it only does it for that particular file and I can't find any related options within the program.

any help will be very much appreciated.

thank you

Macbook Pro, Mac OS X (10.5.6)

Highlight a mp3 with the mouse, then get info from the finder. (Right click or click+control key.) A window will open up with the mp3 info. Scroll down to where it says, "Open with:." Click on the tab to pick an application to open the mp3 with. If Quicktime doesn't show up in the drop down menu, pick OTHER at the bottom of the menu. The Application window (folder) should open up, if not, navigate to you Application folder. Scroll down to Quicktime and pick for the application to open the mp3 with. Done. Do the same with a wav file.

Best bet is to click on CHANGE ALL in the info window. This will change all mp3s and wavs file to open with Quicktime.

Humm yea... Picking QuickTime... Yea...

Repair permissions found nothing of interest. Then deleted:
com.apple.finder.plist
com.apple.iTunes.plist
com.apple.iTunesHelper.plist
com.apple.quicktime.plugin.preferences.plist
com.apple.quicktimeplayer.plist

Hopting that would help but no. QuickTime Pro 7.6.2 is still not the default player for .wav files after reboot. iTunes keeps taking it over. The method works fine on my video edit computer and the other computer I have for making the computer images, just not working on this one.

Boot from your install disc & run the repair disk setting. To use the Install Mac OS X disc, insert the disc, and restart your computer while holding down the C key as it starts up.
Select your language.
Once on the desktop, select Utility in the menu bar.
Select Disk Utility.

Select the disk or volume in the list of disks and volumes, and then click First Aid.
Click Repair Disk.
Click Repair Permissions.
Restart your computer when done and then try the suggestion posted by David M Brewer .
