MacBook Pro gets hot

I know there are lots of posts out there about this - but I don't know how I can find the temperature, but it is hot.

It is hot around the speakers and on the back. I have it propped up to get some air, but still is very hot. all I had running was my email and nothing else and it is very hot.

Any ideas or suggestions? Is it just the alumnium case? I have a white macbook and it doesn't get hot at all....

thanks!

Hi, I had the same problem and looked around for days until I found this link, http://blog.crankybit.com/printjobmgr-uses-99-cpu/
I looked into the CPU usage using the Activity Monitor Utility, specifically PrintJobMgr and found it was using 99% of my CPU. I found printer cues with jobs waiting was the culprit!
My temperature dropped from 78 degrees Celsius to 55 after using Quit Process on Activity Monitor!
Go to the above link and have a read. Your battery life should also be much better if you resolve the heat issue the same way that I have.
I also now use smcFanControl and have different settings for general use and processor intensive use i.e. Photoshop

Hi,
I just replaced the hard drive (previous HD crashed) in a friend's White Macbook (2GHz Core Duo with 512MB memory and now a 250GB hard drive running 10.4.11).

Previously, my friend complained because of excessive fan noise. After I replaced the hard drive and installed iStat, I noticed that the temperature in the heat sinks range wildy. At one point, heat sink A was 100+ degrees and the other was 2 degrees (which doesn't seem possible). At another point heat sink A was 126 degrees and the other was 110 degrees.

All the other temps seem to be normal (30-50 degrees).

What do you make of this?

Thanks!
