Airport Express error (-15006) when trying to connect as a remote speaker?

I use an Airport Express (g) to port music to my stereo.
Recently it stopped working and although the green light is on (ie connected) when I try and connect iTunes to it gives me the waiting bar and then error (-15006).

I've tried doing a 'hard' reset on the unit and reconfiguring it but no change.

Is it broken or is this a software/setup issue?

Thanks,
Dan.

this is not just a windows error. i receive the same problem on my mac pro.

people were complaining it was happening on itunes 8.1.1 so i upgraded today and its still happening.

ive tried many things. everything looks dandy and i can even get it to play, but after ninety seconds or so the tune is dropped and i lose connectivity to the station until i factory reset it and wire it to my mac.

very frustrating!!!!

The problem went away for me after doing a factory reset on AE and power cycling the router, modem and AE. I pulled the backup battery in the modem as well. I left all devices unplugged for 5 minutes before booting them. I opened Airport Utility and reconfigured the AE and everything has worked fine for more than 10 days now. Everything had worked seamlessly for 2 years prior to this error message and connection drop.

I'm having a similar problem and have tried many of the fixes suggested in this thread but none have solved my problem. I do have iTunes 8.2.1, AE 7.4.2.

For me this problem started a few days ago when I tried to select the remote speakers. They were grayed out and then disappeared after trying to select them. Under iTunes preferences I tried un-selecting search for remote devises, closing iTunes and the reversing the process. This didn't work for me either. However, if I turn Airport off and then back on, the remote speakers icon will appear, but when trying select the remote speakers I get the 150006 error code.

Any ideas?

Jim

I've been fighting this same problem for months now.

I got two AirportExpress, a non-Apple Base station and a MacMini.

It all worked fine until one day, without any apparent reason or any change to any bit of my network setup, I got error 15006. I have been fiddling around with it since, getting ever more furstrated.

The Airport Express' are properly recognized and configured, using the MacMini. After setting them up, they reboot, the light goes green after a while, they get an IP, and they show up in my Router's wireless settings (WPA-PSK, Cipher Type> BOTH), but iTunes (version 9, onlz just updated) gives me an error 15006.

Help, please!

I had the exact same problem for several years and none of these solutions had worked. My configuration is a 2Wire router with an airport extreme as a secondary router and an airport express used for remote speakers. Eventually gave up on it for a while, until my 2wire gave me a notice that it just found an additional router (why it took this much time is beyond me) and that i should put it under DMZplus mode. After i had done this, the Airport express worked flawlessly! So that's the extent of how i fixed a 2-year problem, if you have 2wire and none of the latter solutions work, try my method, and if you have an alternative to 2wire im sure there is a comparable explanation, hope this helps!

Alright, I just started getting this error today.

I can use Airfoil for Windows to stream audio to my AirPort Express. I have a 2Wire Gateway a my router and use the AirPort Extreme as an access point and gigabit switch, while my AirPort Express extends the range of the 802.11n to my bedroom. My laptop is in the DMZplus mode (because dammit, the NAT on the 2Wire modem is awful!).

I know it's not a network issue because as I said, Airfoil works FINE.

I have IPv6 disabled on all network interfaces, have done a factory reset, you name it. Still getting the error.

*** APPLE? Seems pretty clear that it's an iTunes issue!

I have had 2 airport expresses (g) working on a time capsule based system for more than a year - all perfectly. I recently changed the time capsule for a dual band version, and now keep getting drop-outs from the airports - they are always recognised by airport utility, but I then try to connect to remote speakers and get the -15006 message, but only intermittently - sometimes they work perfectly.

I'll try the solution with IP6 and let you know, but does anyone think this will be solved by upgrading to the new dual band airport expresses? Could it be that they don't recognise if the 5GHz band is being used (they are 2.4GHz) only...It can't be a range problem as they have not been moved, and it only started after i-tunes 9.1...

I've been messing around with different network configurations to fix this error. There is something fishy with the network communications.

Here is my original setup: Vista Computer to wireless bridge (Linksys WET54G) to wireless access point (Engenius) to router (Linksys WRT54G) to wireless access point (Engenius) to Airport Express.

I screwed around with all the wireless and ip settings but no luck. Finally I just eliminated the WET54G bridge and went right to the access point and BAM, everything started working.

To further prove the fix, I tried the same scenarios with the another computer. The 2nd computer replicated the original issue and then worked without the bridge in the equation.

Hope that helps...

I have the same problem too.

Im having same problems as everyone else. Running latest versions of all Apple software on Windows XP and I continue to get 15006 error with a solid green light.

I have tried updating AE settings, enabling (and disabling) ipv6... but I still cant get it to work.

Very frustrating - Especially when AE is marketed as an easy product to work with. Someone at Apple better come up with a rational solution, or at least explain what the error code interprets as!

My AE works in Client mode, i.e., streaming music in my wifi network. As someone else said before, it eventually disconnects from iTunes and stops working with famous message 15006.

One of the interesting things I have observed is when it happens, Config Tool in my PC does not find any AE. HOWEVER, if a choose "config another", and I supply ip address and password of the one not working, the config tool detects and connects properly. Afterwards closing that access, that ****** SW insists in finding NO AE in my network. How is that possible?? Grrrrrrr
