Airport Express error (-15006) when trying to connect as a remote speaker?

I use an Airport Express (g) to port music to my stereo.
Recently it stopped working and although the green light is on (ie connected) when I try and connect iTunes to it gives me the waiting bar and then error (-15006).

I've tried doing a 'hard' reset on the unit and reconfiguring it but no change.

Is it broken or is this a software/setup issue?

Thanks,
Dan.

Thats interesting.
If unplug mine and then plug back in in range of my iMac then Airport Utility recognises it and I can reconfigure as if everything is fine and I get a green light and all.

I then attempt to connect the speakers via iTunes; get the error message; +and then+ Airport Utility wont see / recognise it as if iTunes has caused it to fail.

Looking forward to any help.
Thanks,
Dan.

After reading dozens of reports about this issue in this forum I found my solution and I want to thank everybody for their contribution. Here is what I did. I think this can help many of you that are having your airport not recognized by airport utility:

1- connect your aiport express to your computer with an ethernet cable
2- while mantaining your aiport express connected to your computer by this cable do a factory reset (see apple support to learn how to do this simple procedure)
3- at this time you will see a steady ambar light in your airport express
4- launch airport utility and wait 30-50 seconds
5- airport express should now appear with factory settings ready to be setup

If you have an Airport Extreme base station and want your airport express joining your network follow the above procedure and TURN ON airport in your Mac in order you can access your airport express through airport utility.

I hope this help you. My airport express (n) is working again with firmware 7.4.1 that many people claim to have a bug as is air tunes. My house is a 2 story building and this airport is on the top floor where te network could be problematic but it is not.

Regards,
Jose

I have the same issue. I have tried the remedies that Jose recommends several times and I have tried other efforts as well. When I get the AE back to its spot and get the green light, I go back to iTunes and try to choose the AE, I get the 15006 error message.

Originally, I noticed the issue because I was trying to get the AE to work on my new 802.11n network but when that failed, I was simply trying to return to my original state.

I would like to hear if anyone else in this thread was able to resolve their issues by following Jose's suggestion.

For what it's worth, I've slowly come to the conclusion that mine must be a range issue.

The AE units notoriously have worse range than the aluminium iMac's, and so although it is closer to my router than my iMac it could have been operating at the edge of its available range, and then maybe I moved something in the house that pushed it over the edge.

This would be consistent with the fact that now, neither of my AE(g) units work in the bedroom, my AE(n) works but has regular drop outs.

The only thing I can't explain is why the (g) units still have their green status lights on(?) and appear to 'break' and need a hard reset for Airport Utility to see them again after I get the 15006 error message.

My plan is to get a Dual Band Airport Express Router to increase my range and operate in both (g) and (n) which should improve my performance throughout.

I'll report back if this clears things up or not. (I'll be mightily p-eed off if it doesn't....)

I dont think that will help things. I have the same issue, with mine sitting literally 1m away from my Extreme base station...

My issue is similar that it wont connect wirelessly, but interestingly it works absolutely fine over ethernet.

I have one other express working fine, set up manually with a static ip, and I have given this new one the next ip, but its not being recognized as soon as I take the ethernet cable out.
It can't be range, because my working one is in the kitchen, working fine - this one is right by my iphone, PC AND extreme, and nothing picks it up!!

I share your pain(!) I just need to rule out what seems to much of a coincidence that both my Express (g) units would stop working in the bedroom location at the same time and the new Express (n) works but cuts out (on a g network). I have subsequently got at least one of them to work in the lounge (near the router) but after many attempts have not got any of them to work again in the bedroom.

I saw a delivery card from CityLink this morning so my new Extreme has arrived, so will let you know. I may of course be furious and over a hundred pounds lighter....

I upgraded my firmware to 7.4.1 and I'm still getting this problem. I'm running Windoze XP, and iTunes will not let me stream to the airport. It took me weeks but I finally connected the airport express to my printer so that my wife can print from her laptop. That was a major pain as well.

Oh, and trying to find a decent resolution to this issue is also a pain. Thank you all for offering suggestions. There really wasn't anything from the official Apple support web site.

My problem is that when I connect the express I can see it.... If I am lucky I can even start streaming my audio to it... than it keeps a stable connection. However.... if I do not start using it right from the beginning after x time it drops the connection. I can not even ping the machine.

Might it be that it jumps into some sort of powersave mode internaly and can not wake up from it? Just a thought? It is not receiving the correct wakup signal?

I think about monitor it's IP uptime and do SNMP trap's so we can see this together with the internal logs and check if we can find a bug.... anybody tried this before? However this approach might not work because their is network activity.

Hi,
I had exactly the same problem on my iMac this morning... yesterday it was working perfectly. Nothing changed in my configuration in between... so it's a mystery 😉
Anyway, I checked the link you posted (thanks btw) about IPv6. My setup was on 'automatically'. I checked also my modem's manual (motorola sbg900) about that point. It appeared that this model doesn't have IPv6. So, instead of the 'automatically' setup in my Preference panel, I put none and saved... just to try... And it worked!!!

Hope this will help.
