Mac OS 9 Email Server

Is there anywhere I can find email server software that will run on Mac OS 9? I plan to use my old Power Macintosh 8500 running OS 9.1 as an email server, but I am not sure if there is any software still available. If there isn't, I can upgrade the processor to a G3 and install OS X but I'd prefer to keep that as a last resort.

PowerBook 180, Mac OS 8.6 or Earlier

If you really mean an email server, that collects and stores email for multiple users and has a Web Address and communicates on the web using mail protocols, then I think you are out of luck.

If you mean an email station, at which you sit to read and answer your (mostly text) emails, there may be a few older programs that would still work.

Eudora, Claris emailer, and Outlook Express come to mind, as well as the email portion of Netscape Navigator.

The older versions appear to support both Mac OS X and OS 9, which solves my problem. Thank you both for the help. EDIT: I cannot tell if the downloads page you linked me to is a list of software for receiving email (such as mozilla thunderbird or microsoft outlook) or software for setting up your own email server, which is my intention.

If you want to use AppleShareIP, version 6 would be a better choice. Its main reason for being is to support multiple interchangeable logins for schools and corporations, so I do not know how good its email server is.

Although there is still a forum for older Mac OS X Server products, there is no forum for AppleShareIP. Apple considers it very obsolete.
