Small phone icon at top of home screen, next to bluetooth icon

I just started getting a small phone icon at the top of my home screen just to the left of the bluetooth icon. I can't find out anywhere what that icon is. I have been missing many calls (or so I have been told). Could this be related? Does anyone know what this phone icon is? Thanks

I took a look at the manual and the icon I have is not listed there. Have a look here to see what the icon looks like (it is the one in the top right, next to the bluetooth):

I also did a reset, and no dice. The icon is still there! Please tell me it is something stupid. My wife was an 8gb 3g and hers does not have the phone icon. Thanks

See p. 17-18 of the manual for icons used on the iPhone... http://manuals.info.apple.com/enUS/iPhone_UserGuide.pdf

It does sound as if you're talking about the TTY icon. Since your TTY is off, try resetting your phone... press the home and sleep buttons until you see the Apple logo, ignoring the slider. Takes about 5-15 secs of button holding and you won't lose any data or settings.
