VPN to connect automatically on login (using OSX client) ? ? ? ?

is there a way to make my VPN connection to connect automatically on login ?
(so its connects on startup)

im using Apple built in VPN client. . . .

5,1, Mac OS X (10.5.6)

Someone asked about this using an apple script the other week I pointed them to this page

Once you have a script you can add that to your login items.

Personally I keep my vpn connect icon in the menubar so its only 1 click away anyway. So is just as quick as launching script at login.

is there a good VPN clint other than Apples that is worth looking into ?

that can connect on login / startup

and runs in the background with out the user knowing ?

An application that is in the login items will bounce in the dock so how would expect a user not to know it is running.

As you can start n stop a vpn service via the command line you could configure a launchd process to start a script.

To easily create launchd processes you can use lingon

This hint Accessing a VPN (PPTP) via the command line could be used to write a bash shell script.

Or you could install a 3rd party command line vpn client see this hint Install vpnc as a replacement for the Cisco VPN client

This would be done in the background.
