Imported bookmarks from IE into Safari, unable to delete browser history

Just got a new iMac and moved some previous bookmarks from Internet Explorer into Safari. Now when I begin to type "www." in the address bar, a drop-down list of webpages I visited in IE appears, but they do not show up in the history list, and I am unable to delete them in any way. Where does this file reside and how do I get rid of it? I can delete browser history in the usual manner with any webpages I currently enter, but cannot get rid of the old ones that were somewhow moved over from my PC when I imported my old bookmarks.

iMac, Mac OS X (10.5.6)

I've tried playing around in there with no luck. Even tech support is scratching their head over this one. Very weird.

Hi,

Safari also uses your bookmarks to search for suggestions in the address bar. The only way to stop it is to remove the bookmarks you no longer want, or, type a space before the address you want to enter.

I.e.:

' www.apple.com'

That's the problem - when I begin to type www. all the pages that I visited in my PREVIOUS PC show up in a drop down list, whether or not I have a CURRENT bookmark for that web address. So even if I don't have a bookmark associated with one of the drop-down suggestions, it still is showing up I'm trying to figure out where that drop-down list resides - must be in some file somewhere. As I mentioned, any CURRENT webpages that I visit show up in the usual history location, and I can delete them no problem. Somewhere along the line when I imported former Internet Explorer bookmarks from my PC it came with this drop-down history list that I can't get rid of. It isn't a real big deal, but is annoying!

Hi,

If the history has been cleared, then they must be lurking in your bookmarks somewhere. History isn't imported from other browsers so it's impossible that Safari is picking up some old history from IE somehow.

Try going into the bookmark manager and on the left hand side, under the 'Collections' area, check in the 'Imported IE Favorites' section(s) to see what's hiding in there.
