Static IP address for printer

I have an HP Officejet (D series) that I have to reinstall every time the Airport Extreme (802.11n) is shut down. When this happens it serves up a new IP address for all the connections, good for the computers, bad for the printer. Is there a way to set up a static IP on the Airport for only the printer and keep the security of the DHCP function for the computers?

Hi Skipb, welcome to the discussions!

I haven't tried this because I don't use a network printer, so apologies in advance if you have already spent time on it.

If you are using the AirPort Extreme to distribute IP addresses, take a look at the DHCP settings in AirPort Utility.

Open AirPort Utility, click Manual Setup and then click the Internet icon at top of the pane.

Select the DHCP tab and take a look at DHCP Reservations at the bottom of the pane.

If you click the + button, it appears that you can name a client and assign a fixed IP address to that device.

Post back on your findings.

Wow! Thanks for your quick response, Bob.
Just to clear up the basics I'm running Airport Utility 5.4.1(549.9) on an Intel Core 2 Duo iBook with Mac OS 10.4.11 to administer the Airport.

I went through all the Utility windows keeping everything the same (clicking Continue)until I got to AirPort Utility - Internet SetUp. This was the first view in which I saw access to the IP numbers. I clicked on the Change these setting radio button.

I clicked went to the drop down menu of Configure IPv4 and selected Manually. That exposed the IP address, Subnet Mask and Router Address, but no + button appeared.

This appears to only relate to the IP of the the Airport itself and not the IPs it is serving up.
