how do I go back to the desktop??

How do I go back to the desktop while i am playing video game, without quitting the game.
like in window you press ctrl + esc to go back to the desktop.

MacBook Pro, Mac OS X (10.5.6)

Press the Command and Tab keys. Some applications don't allow usage of this shortcut.

Some games I know of (particularly Blizzard games) use Command-M to enable "windowed" mode.

Another thing to try might be the expose shortcut for "show desktop" -> Fn+F11.
