Deleting gaps between clips?

Hello,

I am using Garage Band to edit a podcast, and I'm wondering if there's an easier way to do it. Basically, I'm taking one long audio file and taking out the bits I don't want. But the result is 20 or 30 small clips with gaps between them. Right now, I have to manually close all of those gaps, clicking and dragging. It takes a long time. Is there a "remove gaps" function, or some way I can automatically close those gaps?

Oh Man, I was sure hoping this worked as I have searched and tried everything to create the equivalent of a silent section. It did not work for me either!

That method does work. He must have done something wrong.
But it sounds like what you're wanting is the opposite. He's looking to eliminate the silence. You say you want the silent section. So what's the problem? Just leave the section blank. You don't need anything there. Or am I misunderstanding?
