ssh connection to Lacie Ethernet RAID via smb
I have a Lacie Ethernet Disk Raid unit (
http://www.lacie.com/jpen/products/product.htm?pid=10877) which is located behind a firewall. I can establish an ssh connection and tunnels through the firewall and routinely do so to read mail, use vnc, apple file sharing, etc.. I would like to also connect to the raid unit above via smb over a could of ssh tunnels. As I wanted to connect via finder, I made an alias to the loopback address to 127.0.0.2 and used it in the example below, but the same problem occurs even when I use the loopback address 127.0.0.1 and mount -t smb. I have failed miserably so far to connect to this server and it is very frustrating as there is data on it I need to access. I have forwarded both ports 127.0.0.2:139 and 127.0.0.2:445 to the same port on the network raid after having defined an alias to the loopback interface so the address is not confused with my own local smb service (which isn't running but as I recall Apple's software checks). I am then using
mount -t smbfs //myname:password@127.0.0.2/sharename /Volumes/sharename
The command is coming back with
mount_smbfs: server connection failed: Connection refused
but the username and password are correct (they work fine when run from a machine behind the firewall). Pretty weird. There is nothing apparent in the log as to why it is not connecting either. Note that connecting to the same RAID on the local network works fine. I am prompted for a password for a first time link while after that the keychain makes the hookup transparent. Any ideas? I have tried forwarding addition ports, but I have no real idea what I am doing. From my understanding forwarding 139 and 445 should be sufficient.
