Trash won't empty when I put caches folder in it from librar

I was told by Apple to trash my caches folder once a month or more to keep Safari running smoothly. This has been working great for months. Now I am getting a message that the trash can not be deleted because com.apple.lntlDataCache.sbdl.501 is in use. I don't have any applications open when I try to empty the trash. What is causing this?
Thanks for any help.

Hi Jeri:

This knowledge base article will help you trash stubborn files:

As an observation (at the risk of disagreeing with an Apple person), I would not trash cache files unless you are experiencing performance problems. For some period of time you will actually slow your system. In Safari you should, however, trash the 'favicon'(little symbols in front of your bookmarks) folder on occasion. This is located in the icon folder of Safari, as I remember (I am away from a Mac at the moment). If this file gets 'too large,' Safari will slow down.

If you do wish to empty the Safari cache file, you can do that from the Safari pull down menu without actually trashing the folder.

Thank you for your quick response, Barry. I'm sorry that I was not able to get back with you immediately. I read through the article that you suggested and it seemed to refer more to files that are locked, not "in use". I will continue to try to apply something from it to work. For some reason, I can't figure out how to get to Safari's folder. I think my brain is frozen, too! Please help. I can't find a folder named favicon. I have emptied Safari's cache and also reset it, but by the end of the day, it's down to a crawl. Why does this happen every time I update? I repair permissions and repair the disk if necessary from the install CD. What do these updates do that the whole operating system and Safari and sometimes many applications come to a screeching halt??? Trashing the caches folder was a big help until now. Thanks!
