Ipod doesn't want to charge on Bose

Okay so I've had my Bose Sounddock since January and up until now I've had no problems, but now my ipod just won't charge on it, or any other kind of speaker dock system. It says its charging but the minute i take it off it says low battery and dies. It does however charge through the mains, and once its charged it does hold its battery, so it's not like the battery has had it, but its just annoying having to wait for it charge up all the time. I just want to figure out why it won't charge on the Bose???

Is your Mains charger putting out +5V or +12V (it should say on the plastic case of it)? And does the iPod charge ok off a computer USB port?
If the mains is +5V output and the iPod charges off the USB port, then what is likely happening is your iPods dock connector is damaged so that the Firewire power pins are no longer connecting internally (or maybe even broken off).
5th Gen iPods get power two ways. Either through the USB power pins or the Firewire power pins. Even though these iPods no longer sync with Firewire, they still can charge off Firewire. Bose uses the Firewire power pins, as do many docking radios, to feed +12V (or higher) voltage to the iPod. USB charging is off +5V.
So if your iPod charges on +5V or USB but not on the radio dock, you likely have problems with the dock connector on the iPod and those specific Firewire pins or something internal to the iPod with respect to the Firewire power inputs.
