how do I change default email address

when I try to email photo, reply to craigslist ad... anything that automatically pulls up mail, it defaults to .mac email account. I don't use that account at all. I want my gmail email account to be my default for all outgoing mail. How can I control this?

Macbook Pro, Mac OS X (10.4.11)

You are talking about this from a Mail.app perspective, not from .mac webmail via Safari perspective, right?

If so, then in Mail > Preferences > Composing, there is a pull-down menu that says "Send New Mail From." You can select a specific account from the list or you can select "Account of Last Viewed Mailbox."

Or, like BDAqua suggested, and since you don't use that account at all, disable it as he described.

Or, if you no longer want that account, delete it (Mail > Preferences > Accounts, select account and click on "-" at lower left of Preferences window.
