Verbatim 320GB FireWire/USB Portable Hard Drive Won't Mount
Hello ... I have a Verbatim 320GB FireWire/USB Portable Hard Drive that won't mount. The drive has only been used a handful of times ... it is self powered. I accidentally disconnected the drive without dragging it to the trash first .... so I got the "improper disk removal" error. Now the drive won't mount at all. Is it dead or in some kind of frozen state? Any ideas how I can get it back up and running??
Hi! Disconnecting it that way damages the drive's directory and results in it being unable to mount. Try attaching the drive and opening the disk utility and if it shows up repair the disk. Tom
Thanks Tom ... yeah I tried connecting it and checking under disk utility but it does not show up. So it seems that the media is still on the hard drive itself ... there is just no way to access it ... correct?
Hi! My experience has been that the power supplies are finiky at best with the externals that have them and the self powered ones are heavily dependant on the usb port. Try another usb port and make sure you are connecting it directly to the computer and not a hub. If that doesn't work restart with it hooked up and try that. If you get a message that it can't read a certian disk IGNORE IT and go on to the desktop. That message will mean that the os sees it but can't read it. If it sees it you can probably repair it in disk utility. Tom
