Yahoo Messenger: Display Icons not showing

I'm using Yahoo Messenger 3.0 beta 4 on OS 10.4.11. Only about half the display images in my contacts list are showing, no matter whether the contact is online or offline.

However on my iPhone, Yahoo Messenger shows the display image for almost every contact. This means that Yahoo on my Mac is not displaying contact images correctly.

I tired deleting and re-installing Yahoo and deleting plist files, this did not solve the problem.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

Powerbook G4 17" 1.33GHz, Mac OS X (10.4.11)

Hi.

Try this: Quit Yahoo! Messsenger. Go to your userfolder/Library/Caches and trash the Yahoo! Messenger folder. Launch Yahoo! Messenger and see if that worked.

Hi Henry,

Thanks for writing. I tried deleting the Yahoo folder in ~/Library/Caches as you suggested. What happened by doing this was that I lost all the off-line contact images, including those that were there earlier. Among the online contacts, only those images that had appeared earlier came back, while those that were missing earlier were also missing now.

So this has not solved the problem. Surprisingly, Yahoo on my iPhone displays all the images correctly! Would you or anyone else have any further suggestions?

Which plist files did you delete?

Did you repair permissions & restart your computer after all the installations/re-installations?

Remember you are using a _*BETA = buggy*_ version of YIM. You may need to revert to a previous version or use Adium.

YIM is not Apple software. Suggest that you deal with YIM tech support and/or forums - Messenger for Mac Help and Messenger for Mac Community/Forums

Hello Baby Boomer,

I deleted the two Yahoo pref files that are in the User/Library/Preferences folder. Yes I did repair permissions & restart. Are there any other files/folders that I could try deleting, other than the one mentioned by Henry above?

I looks like Yahoo on iPhone gets the contact images from the Yahoo server, whereas Yahoo for Mac relies on the H/disk cache for the images. Wonder if there is any way to induce Yahoo for Mac to download the images from the Yahoo server, then the problem would be solved.

Anyway Im still stuck as of now. Thanks for writing, I'll try Yahoo forums for help.

Home>Library>Application Support>Yahoo! Messenger>Logs
Trash everything in the Logs folder and any other folder that has .plist files.

I use an older version of Yahoo IM when I want to video cam. Otherwise, I use Adium which is very stable & problem free.
I can't be bothered w/YIM beta versions. It takes them awhile to get their Mac act together.
