Macbook Pro and HP Laserjet 5000n

I'm new to Macs. I have a Macbook Pro and an HP Laserjet 5000n. I have the 5000n connected with an Ethernet cable running from the JetDirect port to my Actiontec Verizon FIOS combination modem/wireless router. With this arrangement I am able to print using my other computer, a Windows XP desktop which is hardwired via Ethernet to the router.

I downloaded the drivers onto my Macbook Pro for the LJ 5000n from the HP web site.
That produced two icons on my Macbook desktop. In Settings I went to Printers and Faxes and added the HP Laserjet 5000n via Internet Printing Protocol successfull.
I thought I was finished. Would that it be so.

I tried to print a document from a web site but nothing happened. I clicked on the image of the 5000n on the dock and saw my document listed as "Printing." But I also saw a message that aid, "Unable to check status (Not implemented)."

I suspect that I failed to do something that I should have done to get this printer to print. But, alas. What is it?

Can anyone help?

Thanks so much.

John,

I recommend you follow Greg's suggestion. The drivers you need are provided by Apple, if you want the most up-to-date go to:

http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/drivers/hpproductdrivers.html

The sequence is:

Locate the HP IPP you downloaded and drag it to the trash, empty the trash.
System Preferences, Printers & Faxe, ensure the LJ 5000N is highlighted and click -
Navigate to the site noted above, download and install the latest drivers.
System Preferences, Printers & Fax, Click + sign when you locate the LJ5000N add it.

That should do it.
