Duplicate mailboxes

I have 3 mailboxes; 1 Mac.com, and 2 comcast.net.

Today both comcast.net accounts appeared as duplicates but had no mail in them. I tried to delete them but they won't delete.

I sent messages to them and all comcast mailboxes received the messages. I can delete the messages from the new mailboxes and they remain in the old or original mailboxes but can't delete the new duplicate mailboxes

How do I delete these 2 new mailboxes?

MacBook Pro, Mac OS X (10.5.6)

Under the preferences tab, all your email accounts will show up. You will probably see 4 accounts listed for Comcast. You can select one and click the - button and it will be removed. But, be VERY careful about which one you delete. I did this last night, and lost my inbox and sent mail that had emails in it I wanted to keep. Basically, I had a "new" Comcast (the copy) and an "old" Comcast account. The new one was only a day old and didn't have very many emails in it. The "old" account had over a year of emails in it. I deleted the old one by mistake and lost my emails. And, Time Machine can't get them back.

Comcast must have changed a server and Mail noticed it and made a duplicate account. Be careful which one you remove! If anyone can help me restore my "old" account I'd be grateful.
