I've had a similar issue where my computer went to sleep and now on reboot you can hear the hardrive startup but the keyboard and monitor fail to come to life. I tried to take it to the apple store and of course they failed to disclose this known issue. Should I try taking it to another store or get someone on the phone at apple?

I just wanted to let you guys know I got my 3rd logic board replaced on Friday- and my operating temps were dramatically lower:

Under full load went from 100-106 Celsius to 85 degress max

At rest temps went from 75 to 50

Incredible improvement, especially after they blew me off a couple months ago when I told them there was a problem. They told me iStat menus was inaccurate and they couldnt replicate the issue. I asked repeatedly to see logs that showed temps and they were never able produce them- yesterday I was told their analysis programs dont log temps.

Unfortunately yesterday the machine went haywire while in sleep and overheated tremendously. I took it in yesterday night and they called me today- they have replaced my logic board again- thats 4 boards, the first two for graphics failure, the second two for overheating.

My mid 2007 MacBook Pro has four days left on its Applecare coverage. It had a logic board replaced (1) in November 2008 due to the failure of the Nividia GPU. Last week it had its logic board replaced after exhibiting a terminal flicker for several weeks, where the MacBook stopped responding and needed a forced restart. Only three days after the repairs, the same symptom is still occurring, so I called Apple Tech Support and got a case number that will cover a further replacement (3) of the faulty replacement board (2). If these refurbished logic boards are still using the NVIDIA Geforce 8600M GPU's what do we all do when our warranty expires? If lucky I might get another year or so before the next GPU dies again. What sort of life should we expect from a professional laptop? My old Powerbook 145B still runs after 16 years, so does my SE and 128K Mac, but I don't do any productive work on them. I believe that a quality piece of equipment like my Macbook Pro should give sufficient service life that allows you to use your professional software until it is no longer supported or sufficiently productive for your business. What do you all think?

I think it's a big failure from Apple, I can't belive, but they will cave his own tumb, because all my friends know that the motherboard of my MBP bought on OCt 2007 failed 3 times, and now it's on warranty, and changed my MBP several times, and it's worst. I own a T41 that it's super old and it still working without problems

HEY apple. IBM it's still better? ? ? knife!

I had to pay to get this problem fixed back in May, I tried very hard to get in touch with customer relations persons and visited two different Apple stores several occasions, but in the end gave up as I couldn't go longer without a computer.
I never did get to talk to a customer relations person, and was told that I would get a call back as they were "all busy" at the time, but never did. Quite frustrated. And now I'm getting the keyboard/trackpad problem as well.
I am abroad in Japan right now, but am planning on writing a letter to Apple once I get back home..

I have and early 2006 MPB and never experience problems with it...but a few days from now it started to reboot with no reason. I've read that this issue affected many 1.1 and 1.0 MBPs...is this normal for a 4y.o Mac? What would you recommend me do? If the logic board costs almost 1000USd it might be better to purchase an unibody MPB?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

i have a 2010 model macbook pro and its going in to a computer clinic for its second logic board.this is rediculous i paid alot of money for a premium product and im being let down by poor hardware.if i wanted this kinda hassle i would have saved my money and got an acer(which by the way im using to type this).apple are blaming the techs for not fixing the problem and the clinic is saying it something i must be doing.why dont they just admit that the hardware is broken and just fix it or replace it.i have been nearly 5 weeks without my laptop now and i'm starting to regret converting to apple.

I also have the same problem. I have a 15" MacBook Pro laptop that I bought new from an Apple store around July 2007. I was using my laptop for my presentation last week, and during the question and answering session I closed the lid of my laptop for approximately 5 minutes. When I opened it again, it just showed me a black screen. I have tried turning it on/off and followed all troubleshoot suggestion in the user guide but none of them work.
I brought it to the Apple service desk and they said that it is not NVIDIA issue because my laptop does not even pass the hardware checked that the laptop performed when starting up the computer. They asked me to buy a new Logicboard for at least $1200 not including gst and labor!! When I called Apple service center they said that they do not know why my logicboard is suddenly broken. They even argue that the life expectancy of an Apple laptop is only 3 years maximum.
I am trying to figure out how many people got the same issue like me and tell Apple about it so they can seriously investigate this problem, so any laptop does not die suddenly after 2 years. I think if there is many people have the same problem and complaint about it, Apple will feel more obligated to investigate the situation.

I'm not surprised to hear that everyone with this laptop (07 MBP 2.4ghz) has the exact same problem, nearly the exact same time.. Sleep light, no chime, black screen, brought to Apple Tech today they said they could not boot the computer enough to run a diagnostics test so they said it's not the GPU that's the problem.

I'm not going to give in and buy that expensive, ******** logic board until Apple honors the fact that the logic boards are all defective.

If someone really needs their laptop working, they should check this out:

My 2007 macbook pro also died last week. Machine turns on but: Black screen, no chime, no light in keyboard. It was tested by apple and they said it was not the Nvidia issue so they wouldn't change the logicboard for free. They wanted around 1500 us dollars to fix it, so I refused. It would have been the 3rd logicboard in my macbook pro.
