Q: MBP Logic board failure

Hi,
My MBP is less than 2 years old I got the logic board replacement once within waranty due to some display problem, Again the display is gone blank and sleep light is on continuously I took it to service they are telling logic board problem needs to be replaced. and I dont have waranty.

Can any one tell me why logic board failure repetedly any reasons my MBP is late 2007 model.

    I usually have a virtual machine, excel for mac, mail, calender, and firefox all going at the same time. After wiping and reinstalling sl and not installing any of my own apps I can make it happen by opening say calender and starting a game of chess. The problem first started when machine was under heavy load with a VM going.

    Yea mine is definitely not the nvidia issue. I found at least two other ati Mbp people in another thread that were getting the exact same display anomaly. I think it is a heat dissipation issue with early intel MBPs.

    I've just been hit with this as well. I bought my MBP in October 08 and it died randomly a few days ago. Brought it in and was told that yes, the graphics card had failed but my model isn't one of the ones affected and it would cost me 1700$ to replace the logic board.

    Are there any other ways I can go about getting this fixed that wouldn't be as costly? This is such a bad time for this to happen as I'm left laptopless in exam season.

    what's the details on it??? if it has an NVidia card, check if it's a 8600, then it's viable for replacement. Or at least it should be.

    It's an 8600. They didn't give me any details other than it was a card issue but my model wasn't covered. Maybe I should try a different store or calling Apple directly...

    Contact Apple direct. if it's that card, then there is a **** good chance it's actually that problem. I was told the exact same thing about mine and it took talking to Apple to get it sorted.

    No problem. The Guernsey Apple Store (the IQ store) gave me the same story, then kept changing it. But Apple sorted it out without a hitch.

    and tell them the problem.

    To follow up on my post back in February, I finally have mine back from a Sydney repairer, where it turned out that there was a dry solder joint on the logic board.

    Guess I should apologize to the Apple customer care guy I went at with both barrels, although I think quoting $AUD2090 when I ended up paying $AUD450 is a poor deal, and not a good customer service outcome.

    Hi everybody,

    I've got a Macbook Pro purchased in California in 2007 summer with (of course) Nvidia 8600. I had no problem until exactly last year when I had video distortions and some color changings occasionally occuring on my screen especially after when I moved it. I was almost sure that it was due to article TS2377, but the thing is that it was very occasional and got better by itself and a AASP in Istanbul told me that there was no problem at the computer. I was very dissatisfied since they couldn't know and couldn't even understand my problem. Then I used it for 6 more months until last week when it never woke up from sleep, besides not booting either! Another AASP service guy I took my Mac told me that it's the logic card failure which costs 1300 euros, rejecting the Nvidia issue because my Mac didn't boot and he couldn't get the code!

    Now I will fight regardless, since I believe it's the Nvidia thing and I see many people have the same issue and even some having it solved with no payment. I'm a design student in Istanbul left with bunch boring PCs around, rushing so much to graduate in 2 months, let alone having tons of files helping me to graduate and gain my living in my unfunctioning - but fancy Mac.

    Please draw me a way to dig the service. THX!

    Exact Same thing happened to me, went into the apple store after the black screen and what not. They did the test and it turns out its the logic board IS dead, long story short, they told me tough cookies, its gonna cost 700 for the new logic board and 200 for labour. I had my computer for a year and a frackin half, 1500$ computers should last longer than a year and a fracken half! All in all, at the end of the day I buy a new macbook, lowest end model. A new computer costs almost the same as replacing a logic board what a load!
    *This were I have a question though a few weeks later, I take out my mac pro and decide to try turning it on again, and it started up, the screen came on, it worked all afternoon, I moved all my files onto my external harddrive. but after my computer went to sleep that night it wouldn't start... again.

    So whats the deal, is it really the logic board that failed? Because it did start up after they diagnosed it as logic board failure. Maybe its just a loose wire, or maybe it just needs a cleaning? I dont know, can anyone help?

    I've also been experiencing a strange issue with my MBP. It's one of the first intel ones and has been working fine until recently. It started with random lockups after 10.6.3 upgrade. At first I thought it was the upgrade, but after reverting back to 10.6.2 from a backup, I still had the same problem.
    Some of the time it works fine, but once or twice a week, it locks up and after a hard reboot, it boots up but with a dead screen. I get the chime and it boots up since I can hear all the system sounds when changing volume, etc, but dead screen. I can also connect to it from my PS3 and browse the hdd. Plugging an external screen in does not work.
    Then, after a few reboots, closing & opening lid and doing other random things like turning it upside down, taking out battery, I eventually get it to boot up again with the screen working. It would then be fine again for a few days, until the same happens all over again.

    Not sure if this is similar to what other people are experiencing?

    After using my MacBook Pro for about 14 months, it wouldn't start up one day, screen black and sleep light pulsating very dimly.
    I took it to an AppleStore where they sent it in for a logic board replacement. I've got AppleCare extended warranty so it was done at no charge to me.
    About 6 weeks later the logic board failed once again and it was replaced under AppleCare.
    To Apple's credit, the turn around time was only a couple of days so I was without my MBP for only that length of time.
    But, not to Apple's credit, it seems that overall MacBook Pro quality control and reliability have been steadily declining.

    I got my 09' Unibody MBP back about a week ago from being sent in to Apple care and both the Hard-drive, Logic Board and a "internal bracket" needed to be replaced due to failure, on a less than year old machine? I hate to say it but Apple has been disappointing me severely this past year on the quality of their products.

    I have to agree with the comments of the quality of Apple laptop products. My wife and I bought two MacBook Pro (13 & 15-inch) macs in the past two years. They both failed with the logic board issue. And the replacement would cost us a fortune. I bought those fancy but not long-lasting MBP for regret. We had owned PC (HP, Dell and Sony) laptops before, they are all last more than 5 years still in use. Then we started to using Mac. We were happy to own the good-looking, light-weight, fast-bootup macs at first, but are very disappointed with their longevity after use.

    What the heck is wrong with the logic board? As I known three of my colleages using MBP also got their logic board replaced. Apple really should pay much more efforts with the quality control on this faulty component...
