My MBP is less than 2 years old I got the logic board replacement once within waranty due to some display problem, Again the display is gone blank and sleep light is on continuously I took it to service they are telling logic board problem needs to be replaced. and I dont have waranty.

Can any one tell me why logic board failure repetedly any reasons my MBP is late 2007 model.

    I have the exact same sympotoms on my Macbook Pro (2.2 GHz Core 2 Duo). The display is dead and the sleep light stays on (dim). I am running OS X 10.5.7.

    I force restart the computer and never hear the startup chime. I tried PRAM, SMC Reset, everything in the troubleshooting guides, and still nothing happens at startup. I even tried switching out both the factory RAM (2GB) modules individually and in different slots, still nothing happens.

    I'm pretty sure the Logic board is busted. Can anybody confirm this?

    You might check and see if this program would apply to you.

    It's possible that the blank display is due to the same NVIDIA chip failure, and if so, you may be able to have the logic board replaced under this program.

    I'll definitely look into this. The screen had been acting up (on occasion, randomly turning off/on, like entering sleep mode).

    Well, I took in my MBP to an Authorized Service Center and they confirmed what I suspected -> Logic Board replacement to the tune of $950!! (1.5 years old = out of warranty). I also asked about the NVIDIA chip failure (which they tested) but they found my board was unaffected

    Bummer! I was hoping it was the NVIDIA so it would be covered. You have my sympathy.

    i sincerely hope you have written letters to Apple's PR department telling them you are about to go on a major offensive till they do the right thing and replace it for free...
    i am more and more sickened by Apples strategy of Complete Denial regarding this issue. their GPU's are ***** and whether its the NVidia or the older ATI if you look on this forum and elsewhere you will see dozens if not hundreds of posts complaining about this problem.
    and its seems mighty convenient that your GPU tested 'ok' - consider taking it to a third party for testing. BTW exactly how did they test it? did they tell you?
    until we make enough noise about this Apple will continue to sweep it under the rug.

    May I ask you what happened with your display problem? I think I am having the beginnings of my own infamous MBP display problems and I am trying to figure out a little more about what's going on before I tangle with Apple. Thanks.

    I can tell you what is happening.
    Apple since switching to intel chips has had some serious problems with graphics cards in any MBP models.
    The only solution is to replace the whole logic board because the chips are solder into place.
    There is a recall on Nvidia chips, there is no recall for the ATIx1600 chips.
    There is no other way to fix these problems, even with a new logic board, there is still the same chips and the same board, so at some point the error will return.

    Today I encountered exactly that problem. My Macbook Pro never awoke from sleeping. After doing several tests and resets, still no result. Lucky I have been able to get my data out using Target.

    Once I start my Macbook I do hear the sound (after reset) and my keyboard gives the lights, but that's it. External display doesn't even get an imput. Also it runs very hot on the back of my Macbook (not the battery), I can't even place my hand on it. This seems to be the location of the Video card.

    Luckily enough I checked out which graphics card I have a few days back, and it is the NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT. Plus I bought my Pro in September/October 2007. How can I check if I can get my repair for free?

    I too have the same problem. My Macbook Pro 15.4" was bought around September 2007. My screen is black and it used to get very hot. Is Apple replacing the Nvidia logic board free?

    Hey everyone...I just went through this same issue with my MacBookPro3,1. It was indeed the logic board. I didn't realize there were so many similar issues surrounding the display and the logic board.

    This laptop was protected under Apple Care, so luckily the $900+ repair was covered.

    Next issue, bootup is taking ±5 minutes. Yikes. I'll give it a couple more days and if no improvement, it's going back.

    I have the same issue. It happened just after the SMC 1.3 update which followed the 10.5.7 update.

    The machine some times does not boot, other is will boot with no video or if the video work when you close the lid it may not come back on.

    The machine does not qualify for the extended warranty although it has the same symptoms and was built in late 2007.

    Unfortunately I can't post my hardware details because every such posts has been deemed a pol and deleted by Apple. So I have no idea how we can find the logical conclusion.

    purchased my MBP in June 07, logic board replaced in Aug 08 due to video card failure pre-extended warranty by apple, ended up getting it repaired for free, thought I was all set ... now in June/July 09 same issues again, won't wake from sleep mode, strange graphics patterns (vertical black & white lines, etc) on boot or later and system freezes ... Apple genius ran test and said its the logic board, NOT the graphics card so not covered by extended warranty ... I don't buy it, the symptoms are classic video card failure, even the system log sent to apple points to the failure in the nvidia card ... going in for 2nd opinion, I'm just very dissapointed, this is a design issue and apple is not owning up, this was my first mac and will likely be my last, going back to Dell, they all lasted 5+ years ...
