How to remove Widgets from Dashboard?

Question

How to remove Widgets from Dashboard?

It is MASSIVELY slowing down the F12 function that brings up the Dashboard.

How do I remove these?

MacBook, Mac OS X (10.4.11), iPod Nano 3rd Gen 8G

Just quit all the running widgets you don't use. Press the OPTION key while hovering the cursor over a widget. An "X" in a circle will appear in the widget's upper left corner. Click on it to close the widget.

It doesn't work. I press the Option key, and nothing happens....?
I "hover" over the widget, and nothing happens then either.

???

The two I'm trying to get rid of is the flames (campfire) and snowflakes. thought they'd be neat at the time, but tired of them now lol

Activate the Dashboard, click on the Plus button in the screen's lower left. When the widget strip appears you should also see a new button labeled "Manage Widgets." Click on it to open the management list. Locate the widgets you don't want and delete them.
