I want to use my iPod as a portable clock as well, but I can't seem to ever get the clock screensaver to show. I let it sit, but it just goes black rather than showing me the time.
Any help? Thanks.

Mac OS X (10.4.11),

The clock screen saver will not appear when you are running the iPod off the mains (though the backlight will turn off based on the setting on the iPod, regardless). Are you listening to it via battery or A/C?
The clock displays when running on battery (no power through the dock) and the backlight is NOT set to always on. In order to see it, you have to touch the controls, which makes it go away. It seems nearly useless to me.
I'm running off of the battery, and I have the backlight set to 10 seconds. When the backlight turns off, it remains with whatever screen it was showing until a while later the screen just shuts off. In the mean time, there is no clock.
I'd love to have the clock there rather than just having it shut off.
I just have mine set to show the time in title. I can see the time, even though it's small. Settings > Date & Time > Time in Title On. I know it's not the screensaver.
