iPhone / Softbank - folders

Is there any way to create folders on the iPhone?

If not, are there any apps out there that allow you to do this? I have searched and searched, but cannot find any. Doesn't this annoy anyone else who just wants to use the mail service provided by Softbank?

Yes - with an IMAP account.

You can create additional server stored mailboxes for an IMAP account with the email client used on your computer for accessing the account, or via webmail access using a browser. All server stored mailboxes with an IMAP account are available automatically when checking the account with the iPhone's mail client, and are kept synchronized with the server automatically with each email client used to access the account.

An IMAP account is the way to go when accessing an email account with more than one email client, which is designed for this very thing.

Thanks for the reply.
I know that I can create folders if I use Mobile Me, Google etc. but my wife only wants to use her mobile's mail client, which in Japan is Softbank. She wants to create folders for mail that is sent to her Softbank address. This is her main mail address ~ like most Japanese, the mail address given by the provider is the main address.

This seems to be impossible.

You're welcome.

Yes it is impossible. The iPhone is designed to be a compliment to the email client used on your computer for accessing an email account that is also accessed with the iPhone's mail client, not a replacement for.

If this were possible with a POP account, all user created mailboxes and messages withinh would be lost if you want or need to restore your iPhone for any reason, which isn't a problem with an IMAP account.

Actually, the Softbank email address, XXX@i.softbank.jp, is an IMAP account, accessible from computer. So maybe you can try accessing it from your computer and create the folder/folders?
One Japanese site gave those Softbank account parameters:
IMAP server:imap.softbank.jp
SMTP server:smtp.softbank.jp
IMAP port:143(standard)
SMTP port:587(Submission port), non-ssl
SMTP encryption:yes
