Question

U3 Cruzer Micro (SCANDISK) wont work

OKay I had problems with the U3 Cruzer Micro (SCANDISK).. so went on the PC side and uninstalled the U3 section. now is is just a bog standard USB pen.. but when I put it into the USB drive on my macbook.. it just sits there the light flashing.. nothing happening.. no error message, not being recognised..nothing.

Is there anyway to get this USB pen to start working?

MacBook, Mac OS X (10.5.6)

1. Try the other USB post, one of the Mac USB ports is a low-power port.

2. Open Disk Utility, does it see the drive?

Have you considered reformatting the flash disk under your PC? By the way, SanDisk now offers a Mac OS X based utility to remove the U3 software. Here is info from the readme that comes with this utility:

About Cruzer Utilities Ver. 1.0 (15.1)
The Cruzer Utilities are a set of applications enabling Mac users to set or change the
password on a U3 smart device and access files stored on a U3 smart drive.
In addition, the utility includes an application for complete removal of the U3 Launchpad and
recovery of the space used by the CD-ROM partition.
The applications run on the Mac, but changes implemented are effective on all supported U3
Launchpad OS.

I have one of the 4GB Sandisk U3 Cruzers and it's recognized on both my Macs (desktops). It's formatted FAT32 which is probaly want you want to use if you''re using the drive on both PC and Mac.

Yes it is formatted to FAT, Thanks for the suggestion, but I have already removed the U3 parts on the PC at work. and I have tried it in both ports.... maybe I should give it another format on the pc and see if that does anything.

How big is the drive, if over 2GB it needs to be formatted FAT32.

just to confirm a reformatting has not worked.. disk utilty does not see the drive at all and changing ports does not help.

I don't know if this will work but you can give it a try. Go back to the PC and use the U3 utility to _reinstall_ U3. Then return to the Mac and see if the Cruzer will work. If it does (and maybe even if it doesn't) get the _Mac_ version of the U3 uninstaller and see if you can now remove U3 while running on the Mac. Also, while on the PC make certain that you don't have the U3 security enabled.

By the way, I've used a number of SanDisk Cruzers on my Macs and they seem to work fine after using the Mac U3 uninstaller.

I must be lucky... I haven't done anything to the Cruzer with PC format U3 installed, even my old G4 can see it.

BRILLIANT!! I love you all! thanks for the links.. all I needed to do was install the application and then the mac started recognising it.. I didn`t need to do anything else!!

That star should've gone to Waymen, I just searched out the link.

Anyway, glad it's working, I'll have to keep that in mind in case my 4GB Cruzer ever disappears from the desktop.
