Audio Track Recording - Droning Feedback Noise using iPhone Stereo headset

I am trying to use the built in mic on the iPhone Stereo headset to record an audio track on a MacBook. All works fine except for the "bzzzzzzzzz........" constant feedback drone which mars the entire recording.

Tried my best to adjust the mic recording level etc. But being a Garage Band novice nothing seems to work. The room is well insulated and quiet.

Any suggestion on how I can get rid of this to get a decent sounding recording out without the background drone.

I am pretty sure you're not recording through the headset, but the MacBook's internal mic. What have you set for the audio input in GB's prefs?

GB's current Audio Input is System Setting.

In my Mac System Preferences the device for sound input is Internal Microphone. The other choice being Line In. This I am not using as I am hooked in the head phone jack of the MacBook.

The headphone jack of the MacBook, other than the iPhone's, can't get any audio in, so you're definitely recording through the internal mic. The bzzzz is most likely the computer's fan. Not much you can do about it but get a microphone to record or a USB headset.

You mean the headphone jack on MacBook unlike the jack on iPhone can't get any Audio in at all. Good to know before I wasted any more time in this fruitless exercise.

Any recommendations on a simple robust Mic or a USB headset ?

Of course that depends on what you're trying to record - music, speech? What quality? Etc.

You should have a line-in jack right next to the headphone-out jack on your Macbook, no? Then in GB's Prefs choose built-in for you input.

I strongly doubt that the line-in would pick up anything from an iPhone headset. You would have to untangle the in/out wiring of that headset, and then the level would still be much too low for a line-in. Think of all the stereo headsets that work with Windows machines but not with a Mac because it has a line-level input and not a mic-level.
