Re-Install originall OS 10.2.7 for G5

Hi there

I need to reset my G5 to an earlier OS version. It has to be 10.2.7 for G5 (or 10.2.8). I zeroed out the HD, and tried to reinstall with a retail version of 10.2.6 but the installation wouldn't start up from the disc.

Has anybody got an idea how to resolve this issue? Or has anybody got an idea how to get the original installation CD? I believe that the 10.2.7 for the G5 was a special OS issue.

Thanks a lot for advice

If you call Apple Customer Service 1-800-767-2775, and provide the serial number of the Mac, you may be able to purchase replacement original system discs.
However, those will be for the version of OS, that was pre-installed when manufactured.
But, they will contain the bundled software, that is not included in a Full Retail Version, of a newer OS X. The Apple Hardware Test, specific to the Mac model, will also be included.

Here are the Swiss contact numbers:

Switzerland (French) (41) 0848 000 132
-(German) (41) 0848 000 132

If the original OS, is lower than the current installed version of OS X, you will also need to purchase a corresponding Full Retail Version, of the desired system.

The Full Retail Version, of the Panther Install CDs, a Full Retail Version, of the Tiger Install DVD, or a Full Retail Version, of the Leopard Install DVD would also work.

It needs to be from the G5's original disks; phone Apple((41) 0848 000 132 in Switzerland) and order replacements. The regular 10.2.8 updater won't work either; you need this one.

The earliest PowerMacintosh G5 introduced in 2003 was released with Mac OS X 10.2.7 (G5) (6S80) or 10.3 (dual 1.8 GHz). Since you are advised Don't install older versions of Mac OS than what comes with your computer, the 10.2.6 will not work. As ali brown suggests, your best bet is to get the original disks from Apple, if they are still available.
