Setting up a Lanier Printer

I have my imac connected to a canon pixma (works fine) and I tried connecting a Lanier LD 015spf (multifunction office printer) thru another USB port. I installed the driver, the printer shows up in the printer setup utility but when I print, I get pages of garbled code. I know Im missing something that is probably simple to fix. Thanks!

imac, Mac OS X (10.4.1)

I can't find much info on that printer, but most of theirs seem to be direct PDF input.

Don't try to "Print" a PDF to it, we need to open that Printer's window, (double click on it in Printer Setup Utility), then drag a PDF file to that window, not sure it'll work, but may be what it requires.

Or look for/install the Adobe PDF printer possibly...

Lanier is a member of the Ricoh family of printers. I believe they only post PostScript drivers on their web site for their printers. The fact that you are getting garbled code would indicate that the printer is outputting raw PostScript code. It would appear that you do not have the optional PostScript module installed.

Ricoh does provide PPDs for most all of their network printers that do not have the PostScript module installed. Everything you need can be found at _ http://www.linuxfoundation.org/en/OpenPrinting/MacOSX/pxlmono_. Install Ghostscript first, Foomatic-RIP second, and then the pxlmono PPDs. You will then be able to use your printer with all its capabilities.

Danny,

A few thoughts...

+“This model that I used in my office. worked there but I had a professional set it up (not me!).”+

So it may have been setup as a network printer vs. your present direct USB connection. Might be an old preference file on your computer. Don't worry about that for now...

Afício is the product name for the South America market as shown on the cover of the manual. See http://www.lanier.com/downloads/manuals/BW_MFP/ld015copyreference.pdf

Of the three choices try Aficio 1515MF

As Matt surmised, you may be missing the PPD file or your computer has it but does not recognize it. Try launching Disk Utility (in the Utilities folder), select your disk in the left pane, click on the First Aid tab and then click on the Repair Disk Permissions button. Afterwards, try printing.

If the problem persists, try downloading and installing the PPD and Printer Utility for Mac (updated version on 4/9/2009) from Lanier ( http://www.lanier.com/downloads/driverFrame.aspx?path=http://support.aficio.com/ bb/html/drut_e/lan_u/model/x15_15f/x1515fen.htm)

Reboot computer, repair disk permissions, launch Printer Setup Utility, delete the previous printers, Add printer and then try printing.

One more thing, are you really using OS 10.4.1? If yes, update to 10.4. 11

Hope this helps.

Thanks to you and Matt for your help. Unfortunately I wasn't successful. I tried changing drivers, model #'s, as you suggested. I would send a document to the printer but the printer never would complete the job. I guess that is better than printing 20 blank pages and some garble. Since my other printer works I will go the path of least resistance and use that one. Again, thanks....Oh, I am using version 10.4.11. Typo on my part
