Library/Printers/Xerox/filter/XeroxPSFilter failed

For the last week I have been receiving the message in my PrinterProxy window:

"/Library/Printers/Xerox/filter/XeroxPSFilter failed"

when I try to print to the networked Xerox Work Centre 7655 using the "Xerox Work Centre 7655" print driver.

I have done a lot including:

• Reinstalling my system software
• Updating my firmware
• Resetting my printing system
• Downloading the drivers from Xerox.com
• I have configured both manually and with Bonjour and get the same "XeroxPSFilter failed" message.

I should mention I can print when a "Generic PostScript Printer" driver is selected. Which is fine, except I don't have any of the advanced printer functions I had 3 weeks ago (double sided prints, 11x17 etc.)

It worked fine a few weeks ago.

Help.

P.S. There is also a co-worker on a MacBook Pro with Mac OSX 10.5.6 that gets the same messages.

Mac Pro, Mac OS X (10.5.6), 2 2.8 GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon

Hi there,

You may find that none of the steps you have performed to date have actually removed the offending filter from the path shown. I have seen installers leave files in place rather than remove/overwrite them. So try trashing the entire Xerox directory in ./Library/Printers/, restarting the Mac and then installing the latest driver you downloaded.

Good to hear you got some functionality back. Not sure if there is anything else you can remove to get ID working, you may have to get help from Xerox.

We had a problem with our Canon's using EFI (Fiery) print controllers from IDCS3. An EFI plugin would cause ID, and only ID, to crash when selecting to print. After reporting the problem to Canon they eventually supplied us with an updated driver that stopped the crash.
