Try resetting PRAM

If that does not help, try resetting the SMU (power management) following this procedure precisely.

If that does not help either, try restarting from your Mac OS X installation disc. Does the problem occur when you are started up from another system?

I am experiencing the same problem. The Machine just came back from the repair shop a week ago. The logic board and display have been replaced twice in the past two weeks The first repair was due to frequent crashes, but the first sign that something was wrong was a cyan colored line down the middle of the screen. It came back from the repair shop and twelve hours later there were two lines down the display screen, naturally I called for a second repair. By the time they came to pick up the machine, five days later there were ten line on the screen, cyan magenta and yellow. Again they replaced the mother board and display screen. That repair last all of one week, last night the 6 cm wide black stripe appeared, and the screen is almost totally discolored. I tried resetting pram and nvram, and starting up from the boot disk, but nothing helped. Whatever is wrong with the machine it goes deeper than replacing the motherboard and display.
