iPod Touch (1st Gen) Charging Problem

Hello,

I have a problem with my 1st Generation 16GB iPod Touch. I will try to explain this to the best of my ability, so please be patient.

I recently installed a Pioneer Avic D3 in my car and I purchased the iPod cable which allows you to play the iPod through the car head unit as well as charge the iPod. The cable is supposed to work with iPod Touch 1st generation and all previous iPods.

So I plug my iPod Touch in and music starts playing, but the iPod does not charge. I figure that its the cable so I rip apart the dash and plug everything back in. I plug the iPod Touch in again and it plays, but still no charging. I make sure all of the options are checked that enables the iPod charge and they are. I get my old 5G Video out and the cable charges that.

So maybe it REALLY doesn't work with the iPod Touch 1st gen I thought. I got my buddy's 1st Gen iPod Touch and it charged and then my other friend got one and his charged.

My iPod Touch is read by my computer and charges via the a/c outlet in the wall and via USB on my computer. What would cause it to be the only 1st Generation iPod Touch NOT to charge from the Pioneer cable in my car?

Your reply is greatly appreciated!

Hi Donders: Previous generations of iPods were charged through the "Firewire" pin on the dock connector. More recent models are charged through the USB pin. I'm guessing that the charger you are using is the older firewire type. I have a similar issue with my car charger. It will charge my old iPod Mini, but no luck with the iPod Touch.

Hope this helps

Stedman,

Thanks for the reply, but I have succesfully charged two of my friends' iPod Touches in the car. I have also posted on the forum for my radio and they all have no problem charging their 1st generation iPod Touch.

Does anyone think the Scosche adapter (for the iPhone 3G, 2nd Gen Touch, 4th Gen Nano) might solve this problem? I am thinking of buying it as a test.

Please let us know if the Scosche works. I have a similar problem with a Kenwood KCA-iP500 iPod Interface. I'm sure the touch used to charge before I upgraded the firmware.

So you are saying that a downgraded firmware might help? What seems strange to me is that both of my friends were running 2.2.1 and it charged on my radio, but a downgrade was something else I was thinking of. Maybe I will give that a shot.

The genius had no idea what it even was or where it was in the store. He would have not recommended it to me had I not had an idea that it MIGHT have worked with my iPod Touch.

Good news is that it worked though. Ran out to my car, popped the iPod connector from the car into the Scosche and the Scosche into the iPod Touch and boom, it charged!!

There is your solution.
